Frequently Asked Questions / Knowledgebase
Rating beer can be difficult as everyone has their own likes and dislikes. Rating a beer from 1 to 5 can be difficult to interpret due to the reviewer's personal tastes.
Our preference rating helps to address this. Within your PubShed POS account, you can set your "Taste Preferences" for various styles of beers (Lager, IPA, Mead, Stout, Ale, Sour, etc) from 1 to 5. One being not liked very much to 5 being you really like that style of beer. When then take your "Taste Preferences" and use them to calculate a Preference Rating.
We do this by taking your Taste Preference and reversing it (so a 1 becomes 5, 2 becomes 4, 3 stays as 3, 4 becomes 2 and 5 becomes 1) and adding this to your beer review rating out of 5.
For example, a mid-level rating of 3 for someone who does not like sours at all would be a rating of 3 plus a preference score of 5 (reversed from 1) giving a total of 8. The same rating for someone who absolutely loves sours would be a rating of 3 plus a preference score of 1 (reversed from 5) giving a total of 4.
This shows the taste is really good at 8 as someone who doesn't like them thought it tasted good, but for someone who loves sours it's a score of 4 as it only had a mid-level rating (the threshold for a good beer would be higher for someone who really enjoys sours).
